A solar configurator that turns a satellite photo into a priced, buildable mounting system
Customers mark their roof or plot on a map, design their solar system in 3D and get an exact parts list, a price and a proposal, all in one sitting and without a trained designer.
Why it was needed
For a mounting-system manufacturer or installer, every quote starts the same way. Someone trained has to:
- turn a roof or a plot into a panel layout;
- choose the structure and work out the rails, clamps, hooks, posts and piles;
- cut the rails without wasting bars;
- check the spacing, the shade and the wind;
- build a parts list and a price, then a proposal.
It happens in spreadsheets and CAD, it takes hours, and only a few people can do it. Customers wait for a site visit to learn anything. A counting mistake shows up on the roof, or in a price that was wrong from the start.
The manufacturer wanted customers to do the design themselves, and get the same answer a trained designer would.
What the client gets
One tool, five simple steps.
Mark the site
Find the address on a sharp satellite map and trace the roof or the open ground. Add chimneys, water tanks and areas to keep clear.
See it in 3D
The building appears automatically: walls, roof shape and covering, doors and windows, trees from the photo, the real surroundings and sky. On open ground, the ground type is recognised from the photo.
Design it live
Pick the panel, the system size and the mounting structure by its photo. Set rows, spacing and tilt. See the sun and shadows on any date, which roof sides are worth covering, wind gaps, and the parts and price as you go. Every change updates instantly.
Lock the design
One click freezes exactly what the customer saw.
Get the result
A 3D assembly of the real mounting parts, the parts list, the installer's cutting plan, the price, and an 8-page proposal PDF.
For the end customer
Satellite map with address search and "locate me". Find your own roof in seconds, without a sales call.
Roof or open ground. One tool for rooftop and ground-mounted systems.
Automatic 3D model of the building. Flat, gable, hip and shed roofs, six roof coverings, the real surroundings. You see your own house, not a drawing.
Panels laid out for you. Fill the roof or ask for a size (3, 5, 10 kW and more); portrait or landscape; the gap from the edge you want.
Structures picked by photo. Ground racks with one or two posts, raised racks for concrete roofs, rails on pitched roofs. Choose what you see, not a part number.
Fixed frame angles. When a structure's frames come in set angles, you pick one of them; "Auto" picks the one closest to the best for your site.
Rows and stands. Choose how many panels per stand and the spacing between rows: most panels, no winter shade, or your own gap.
Sun and shade on any date. Move the sun through the day and the year, see the shadows, and see how much shade each row gives the next.
Which roof sides are worth it. Each side shows its sun and a plain verdict, so the customer understands why a north side is left empty.
Wind gaps with one tap. Tap a panel to leave a wind gap or remove that panel; suggested gaps appear on their own where the rules ask for them.
Length of every array. Shown on the 3D view and in a list.
Wind estimate. The pull and push on the structure for the local wind, compared with the ratings, in plain words.
Live parts list and price. Every change shows the mounting parts and the total price straight away.
Compass on the ground. True north and the best facing for the panels.
Proposal PDF. An 8-page proposal with the plan, the energy per month, the equipment, the quote and the next steps, ready to keep or print.
Works on phones. Tap a panel, fold away controls, and always get the newest version of the site.
Light and dark look, in the brand's own style.
For the manufacturer or installer
Everything below is set in the owner's own studio, with no developer needed.
Your own parts and prices. Rails, clamps, hooks, posts, piles and panels, each with its price and price history; rails sold in several bar lengths, each with its own price.
Your own 3D models. Upload a model and it is made light enough for any phone automatically, without changing its size.
Teach it once how parts fit. Show how each part sits on the next, CAD-style; the tool then builds every customer's system the same way.
Your counting rules. End clamps on the ends, mid clamps between panels, hooks per rail, screws on each foot, parts on each frame. Every part counted is a part placed.
Your mounting rules. Rails per row, hook spacing, extra hooks in high wind or snow, how close a joint may come to a clamp, the shortest piece you will cut.
Your structures. Panels per frame in portrait and landscape (for example 2 portrait or 4 landscape), height, fixed tilt or the angles the frames come in, posts, braces, screw piles or base plates.
Your roof and ground types. Which system goes on which roof or ground, and how each covering is fixed.
Your wind settings. Wind zones, your structures' ratings and when to leave wind gaps. Customers only see figures you have confirmed.
Your quote. Company details, logo, brand colour, quote numbering, validity, what is included and your terms, printed on every proposal.
Your presentation. The welcome messages, where the map opens, the compass design, the sky and lighting.
How it helps
No trained designer in the quote. The customer designs; the tool does the counting, the cutting and the checks.
Quotes in one sitting. From an address to a priced proposal while the customer is still interested, not after a site visit.
The price matches the parts. The parts and price the customer sees while designing are exactly the ones on the final quote.
Less material wasted. Rails are cut across all the rows together, so fewer bars are bought.
Fewer surprises on site. Shade, spacing, obstacles, keep-clear areas and wind gaps are handled before anyone climbs a ladder.
A professional proposal every time, in the company's own branding.
One tool for roofs and open ground, on phones and computers.
The company stays in control. Its own parts, prices and rules, changed any time, with locked quotes never changing afterwards.
Results
- What the customer sees is what is quoted. The parts list and price on the design screen are the same ones used after the design is locked.
- Every part counted is placed. The 3D assembly shows each counted part in its place, and the tool checks this on every row.
- Instant updates. The design, the parts and the price update the moment anything changes, even on large sites with thousands of panels.
- Fewer rail bars bought. Cutting rails across all rows together:
- 100 rows of 12 panels: 650 bars instead of 800;
- a hip roof: 34 bars instead of 44;
- two rows of 10 and 16 panels: 14 bars instead of 16.
- A ready proposal from the same design: 8 pages, with no copying between tools.
